Frederick Douglas Tunnel
2022.04.25 The current tunnel has been called Amtrak’s worst bottleneck between Washington DC and New Jersey. The Frederick Douglass Tunnel is the centerpiece of the B&P Tunnel Replacement Program, which will modernize and transform a four-mile section of the Northeast Corridor. It includes two new high-capacity tubes for electrified passenger trains, new roadway and railroad bridges, new rail systems and track and a new ADA-accessible West Baltimore MARC station. The recently passed $1 trillion Federal infrastructure bill will provide the funding necessary for the project to move forward.
