The annual Maryland DC Wireless Association Golf Tournament was held on September 12 at the Whiskey Creek Golf Club in Ijamsville, Maryland, bringing together members of the association, as well as friends, colleagues and community members for a relaxing day of golf. This year’s tournament raised over $30,000, benefitting numerous charities throughout the state of Maryland and beyond. Miller, Miller & Canby was proud to once again support the event as a Bronze Sponsor for the 8th consecutive year.

Since 2009, the Maryland DC Wireless Association has made it part of its mission to help raise money for local charities through various events, partnering with organizations that have included Toys For Tots, Warriors4Wireless, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and many more. The MDDCWA Annual Golf Tournament is one of its most successful fundraisers; to date, the MDDCWA has donated more than $200,000 to benefit local charities.

Miller, Miller & Canby’s Sean Hughes serves on the board for the Maryland DC Wireless Association and, along with other board members, is involved in testifying and providing key insight for policymakers concerning wireless legislative issues and amendments on the local, state and even federal level. In addition to these responsibilities, Board members assist with the planning and execution of fundraising and educational events year-round.

Each board member is able to direct a portion of this particular event’s proceeds to a local charitable organization. Miller, Miller & Canby has directed its portion to Hopecam, an organization that uses voice over Internet technology to help children with cancer overcome the burden of social isolation and The Troy Suddith music scholarship at Rhythm Changes, a 501(c)3 organization. Troy passed away in 2020 and was an amazing wireless telecommunications sales engineer who loved music, sports, laughing and his friends and family.

“It’s a true privilege to serve as a board member for an organization that places such a strong priority on giving back and serving community needs and interests, and we are proud to have donated over $200,000 to local charities,” said Hughes.
