Kentlands Community Celebrates Milestone: Model of New Urbanism Marks 25th Anniversary

Kentland's community celebrates milestoneIt was more than 25 years ago that visionary developer Joe Alfandre, working with town planners Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk developed the vision for a new mixed-use community to be located on the unique Kent farm property in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  Miller, Miller & Canby attorney Jody Kline was then given the task of creating the legal framework for the innovative MXD zoning, with its sketch plan/schematic development plan/site plan process, that evolved into the award-winning “Kentlands” community.  Today, Kentlands is one of the oldest and most successful models for New Urbanism in the United States. Kentlands today consists of approximately 1,800 homes in the sub-neighborhoods or Districts of Gatehouse, Old Farm, Upper Lake, Middle Lake, Lower Lake, Tschiffely Square, Upper Hill, Middle and Lower Hill, Midtown, Lakeside, and Kentlands Bluff. Mr. Kline, along with Miller, Miller & Canby, joins the City of Gaithersburg in celebrating the 25th anniversary of Kentlands.
