On Tuesday, May 12, Jody Kline, head of the Land Use and Zoning Department, had an opportunity to put his experience and knowledge about the Clarksburg planning area to work in the classroom. Mr. Kline was invited to participate as a juror on a three member panel critiquing the work of student teams in a planning course in the Urban Studies and Planning Program at University of Maryland’s School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation in College Park, Maryland. The student teams were given facts about the Clarksburg planning area in upper Montgomery County and were then challenged to provide recommendations to achieve the goals of the area master plan amended in October, 2013. Mr. Kline, along with two employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (one former, one current), along with two professors, analyzed and commented on the creativity, the practicality and the likelihood of achievement of the various development scenarios presented.
