A September 21, 2023 Washington Business Journal article titled, “Spare the Ax: Efficiency Without Layoffs – How DC-area Private Companies are Doing it,” reported survey results of the region’s private companies on the topic of cost-cutting strategies for 2023. Eighty-seven percent of business leaders surveyed shared that cost-cutting was either somewhat or very important to their business this year. In the article, published online and in the print edition, business leaders in the DC metro area provided insights from their own experiences on how companies can reduce spending without laying off employees. A variety of successful expense reduction initiatives were outlined, including negotiating vendor agreements, automating IT functions, maximizing use of existing office space, and other creative strategies.
