Miller, Miller & Canby land use attorney Jody Kline was recognized as “Volunteer of the Year” on October 20 at the annual meeting of the Audubon Naturalist Society. The award was given “in recognition of {Kline’s} skilled and tireless pro bono legal representation.”
Over the past several years, Kline’s legal counsel to the Society has covered a wide range of issues related to use and development of its 40-acre sanctuary in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Among other accomplishments, Kline assisted the organization with modifying its special exception approval for fencing and securing approvals to regrade and resurface a nature trail. He also orchestrated approval of a major modification of Audubon’s special exception to create an expansive “Nature Play Space”, a process that involved public hearings before the Montgomery County Planning Board, the Office of Zoning and Administrative Hearings and the County Board of Appeals.
“It’s an honor to be recognized for work that promotes nature,” said Kline. “Supporting this organization, which is building a greater and more diverse community of environmental stewards committed to preserving our region’s natural resources, has been a very rewarding experience,” he added.
The mission of the Audubon Naturalist Society, newly-branded as Nature Forward, is to inspire residents of the greater Washington, DC region to “appreciate, understand, and protect their natural environment through outdoor experiences, education, and advocacy.”
